                         The Elite Manual
                       for the Commodore 64

Thanks to the lineart graphic abilities of Word for Windows,
here is my interpretation of the 1984 Elite Manual by Firebird for
the Commodore 64. It is complete and includes all the text with
the British spelling intact, screenshots, artwork, wireframe
pictures of all the ships ( including the Thargon ), the game
loading instructions, and the pilots log. The Contents have been
updated to support the page format of the file, and all subjects
are included to easily find the section you want.

As the file is in Word for Windows DOC format, if you don't
have a word processor which will read the files, you can download
the free Word viewer/printer program from Microsoft.

The file is ready to print on a standard HP laser printer. The
left/right margin spacing is set to 0.6/0.4 inches for holepunch
clearance. The file requires 40 pages for singleside, and 20 pages
for dualside, printing. If you wish to make a dualside copy, do
the following:

1. Use the Print options in Word to print only the ODD PAGES.
2. Use the Page Setup in Word to change the left/right margin from
0.6/0.4 to 0.4/0.6 (reversing them for holepunch clearance).
3. Reverse the order of the printed pages so that the first page
will be on top, and the first one to print when you reload the
   paper into the printer.
4. The Title page and Contents page are printed single side only.
Remove the Title page (the first one with the big Elite logo)
from the printed pages, and replace it with a blank page (the
Contents page will be printed on this). You should now have a
blank page, followed by page 3 (face down) on top of the
   printed pages.
5. Reload the pages into the printer. For the HP Laser this would
be face down and upside down.
6. Use the print options in Word to print only the EVEN pages.
7. Check your printout, add the Title page, and punch the binder
holes. You now have a perfect (and much BIGGER) copy of the
   Elite manual.
