PC Format http://www.pcformat.co.uk/newsread.asp?story_id=274 ------------------------------- Elite Web site closed by Braben Don't bother going to www.cix.co.uk/~ibell/elite. After years of legal wrangling and in-fighting, the Elite Web site created and maintained by Ian Bell has been forced to close due to pressure brought to bear by David Braben. Mark Wilson, IT Director of CIX, informed Ian Bell on 7 September that CIX had been threatened with legal action by David Braben over alleged breach of distribution rights. The site incorporated an archive of Elite materials including BBC Micro, Spectrum, Nintendo and other versions of the game that could be played on emulators. Two days later, CIX withdrew all access to the site. This is only the latest chapter in a long saga of the "I own Elite" "No, I own Elite" bitching that has been chuntering on for some years now, most of it revolving around Mr Braben's legal action against various defendants for alleged infringement and libel in connection with Elite. Elite was a popular space combat game for 8-bit computers about 15 years ago, in case you were wondering.
