PC Format Wed 22 Sep http://www.pcformat.co.uk/newsread.asp?story_id=288 Elite: the saga continues In our last story on the closure of the CIX Elite Web site, we cautiously said "For a start, the 'Ian Bell' running the site is not necessarily Ian Bell, co-creator of Elite." Well, the man himself has been in contact to tell us he is Ian Bell, co-creator of Elite, so there. He had a few other points to make, too. On the subject of David Braben's claims that he couldn't get any response to his enquiries, Ian Bell told us, "I have never received any contact from Mr Braben on the subject of this Web site. I have responded to all enquiries from Mark Wilson [IT Director, CIX]." On the subject of exactly why the site was closed down, he told us that CIX had e-mailed him saying that Braben had threatened them with legal action over distribution rights for the Elite files, and showed us the e-mail. The CIX e-mail went on to threaten to remove access to Ian Bell's CIX Web space where the Elite site was located, if he didn't provide documentary evidence of his rights to distribute the Elite software. As the world now knows, access was removed on 9 September.
